GREENSBORO, N.C. - With McConnell Golf's recent decision to convert Sedgefield Country Club's bent grass greens to Bermudagrass, the course will be closed during a large portion of the summer.
Therefore, the 2012 AJGA FJ Invitational will be played at The Cardinal Golf & Country Club, it was announced today.
The 11th annual FJ Invitational is set for June 11-15, 2012.
Prior to the founding of the FJ Invitational in 2002, the AJGA event was played at The Cardinal as an event for both boys and girls.
In 2002, the event moved to the Forest Oaks Country Club and became an Invitational event for boys only; since then it has prospered as a major event on the AJGA schedule with the event winner earning an exemption into the Wyndham Championship PGA TOUR event in August.
The FJ Invitational moved to Sedgefield Country Club in 2008. Two-time event winner Brian Harman is now playing on the PGA TOUR while 2007 winner Peter Uihlein has also made the move from college to professional golf.
Pete Dye designed the course at The Cardinal Golf & Country Club; the course opened in 1975 as one of the Piedmont Triad's most challenging layouts.
In 2007, Dye restored the course providing a longer challenge that retained the Cardinal's unique and demanding qualities. Like Sedgefield Country Club, The Cardinal Golf & Country Club is a McConnell Golf property.
The FJ Invitational will return to Sedgefield Country Club in 2013.
The FJ Invitational schedule will remain the same as past years with the Junior-Am fundraising event set for Monday afternoon. Official tournament play begins Tuesday and concludes on Friday, June 15.
Tournament admission is free of charge.
