Weigh 2 Go: News Producer Reveals Her Motivation

We all have our reasons as to what motivates us to change our lives. For some its life circumstances, people in our lives, and I know that's true for me.

I started Weigh 2 Go on a journey to lose 100 lbs. motivated in particular by one person in my life. That's my Aunt Deb who's one of the strongest women I know. Aunt Deb who lives in Georgia has endured living with Diabetes for years. I've seen how she has struggled but also overcome living with this disease. She has spent numerous nights sometimes weeks in a hospital bed fighting infections.  I've seen her hardly being able to walk for years, nearly handicap by diabetes because of complications caused to her feet.

However Aunt Deb is not the only one in my family who has diabetes. I come from a long family line of diabetics on both sides. My grandfather, his mother, and all his sisters all had diabetes but the list goes on and on. It's a disease that I decided will now stop with me but it took my Aunt Deb to help me realize that.

One of Aunt Deb's last complications was the hardest but also a blessing in disguise because now she gets around better than I have ever seen her. Aunt Deb had to have part of one of her legs amputated. But not even that could slow her down. She's a mover and a shaker, with a zest for life and for cooking. But it was that one complication that turned my life around. It was also during that same time in my own life I was diagnosed with prediabetes. I made a promise to her that we can stop diabetes that the cycle could end with me and my family and that's a promise I plan to keep for life.

Kicking the "diabetes cycle" and raising awareness about it in the process has become top priority for me on this journey. I know I have a long way to go on learning more about it and changing my own eating patterns but I also know I will get there. I also know this is anything but easy but none the less I will do it and reach my goal one day at a time.

So far, I've lost 21 lbs. from 244 lbs. on my journey to lose 100 lbs. since starting at the end of June of this year. I can't wait to drop even more weight, reduce my risk of diabetes, start a new way of life, and find a healthier new me. My blood sugar was also good at my doctor's appointment last week (smile).
