Greatest One-Day Rain In The Triad

Greensboro, NC -- This summer is among the wettest summers on record, but single day rainfall hasn't even come close to record proportions.

The most rain to fall in one day this summer was 2.90" on Saturday, August 17th.  However, the most rain to ever fall in one day in the Triad was 7.46" on September 24, 1947. This enormous amount of rain was all associated with Tropical Storm #6 who's center passed through eastern North Carolina.

The top 5 one-day rainfall totals are:

1) 7.46" on 9/24/1947

2) 6.24" on 10/15/1954

3) 5.11" on 9/22/1979

4) 4.94" on 8/27/2008

5) 4.73" on 9/8/1977
