Sydney, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Juan Martin del Potro cruised into the final of the Sydney International tennis event with a straight-set win over Dmitry Tursunov on Friday.

The Argentine, who is currently ranked fifth in the world, dispatched the Russian Tursunov for the third time in as many tries.

Del Potro made quick work of Tursunov with a 6-4, 6-2 win in 1 hour, 4 minutes to reach his 25th career ATP final. He will be in search of title No. 18 when he faces Aussie Bernard Tomic, the reigning Sydney champ.

Tomic had a grueling three-set win over Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky in 2 hours, 14 minutes.

Stakhovsky, who didn't drop a set leading up to the semifinal, won the first set 7-6 (7-4) and set himself up for the win until Tomic showed some mettle at this final Australian Open tune-up.

The Aussie took the next two sets 7-5, 6-3 to earn a trip back to the final. Tomic improved to 2-0 in his career against Stakhovsky and returns to the championship in Sydney where he recorded his only career title on the ATP World Tour last season.

Del Potro is 1-0 lifetime against Tomic, with the victory coming last year in Washington, DC.
