Sydney, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Juan Martin del Potro cruised into the finals of the Sydney International tennis event with a straight-set win over Dmitry Tursunov.

The Argentine, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the world, found out earlier in the day that he will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Australian Open before dispatching the Russian Tursunov for the third time in as many tries.

Del Potro made quick work of Tursunov with a 6-4, 6-2 win in 1 hour, 4 minutes to reach his 25th career ATP final. He will be in search of title No. 18 when he faces Australian Bernard Tomic.

Tomic, the reigning champion of the Sydney event, had a grueling three-set win over Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky in 2 hours, 14 minutes.

Stakhovsky, who didn't drop a set leading up to the pivotal semifinal, won the first set 7-6 (7-4) and set himself up for the win until Tomic showed some mettle.

The Aussie took the following two sets 7-5, 6-3 to earn a trip back to the finals. Tomic improved to 2-0 career against Stakhovsky and returns to the championship in Sydney where he recorded his only career title on the ATP World Tour in 2013.
