Auckland, New Zealand (SportsNetwork.com) - Four-time champion David Ferrer and former titlist John Isner were among Thursday's quarterfinal winners at the Heineken Open, a final hardcourt Australian Open tune-up.

The top-seeded and three-time reigning champion Ferrer got past fellow Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

"It was a very tough match with a lot of rallies and long points," Ferrer said. "But I feel good. I played better than last night and I'm happy because I'm in the semifinals. I played more aggressive, nothing seems like yesterday."

Meanwhile, the third-seeded Isner ripped 18 aces before outlasting fifth- seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) in 2 hours, 24 minutes at ASB Tennis Centre. Kohlschreiber titled here in 2008 and was last year's runner-up to Ferrer.

Two other quarters saw Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut drill American wild card Jack Sock 6-1, 6-3 and Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu douse American lucky loser Steve Johnson 6-4, 6-4.

Friday's semifinals will pit Ferrer against Lu and the 2010 Auckland winner Isner versus Bautista Agut.
