Metz, France (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon eased
into the quarterfinals, while Andreas Seppi will not make a return trip to
the final in Metz after suffering a second-round upset Thursday at the
$545,000 Moselle Open tennis event.
The 2010 Metz titlist Simon whipped fellow Frenchman Kenny De Schepper 6-2,
6-3, while France's Nicolas Mahut, a winner of two ATP World Tour titles
this season, popped seven aces in upending the third-seeded Italian Seppi 6-4,
6-4 on the indoor hardcourts at Parc des Expositions.
Seppi lost to two-time reigning champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in last year's
Simon will meet sixth-seeded American Sam Querrey in Friday's quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, eighth-seeded German Florian Mayer avoided an upset by tackling
Slovak Lukas Lacko 6-3, 6-2 on Day 4.
Another second-round result saw German Benjamin Becker outlast French wild
card Albano Olivetti 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, 6-1. Becker will face Mahut on Friday.
The 2013 Metz champion will collect $98,000.
