Barcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Former Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych was among Tuesday's second-round winners at the $2.23 million Barcelona Open tennis event.

The third-seeded Czech Berdych came from behind to beat one-time world No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko, of Russia, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 on the red clay at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.

Sixth-seeded Japanese Kei Nishikori whipped Spanish qualifier Guillermo Olaso 6-1, 6-3, while eighth-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber outlasted Russian Andrey Kuznetsov 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-2) in 2 hours, 32 minutes.

Additionally on Day 2, 10th-seeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy handled Italian Paolo Lorenzi 6-2, 6-4 and Latvian qualifier Ernests Gulbis upended struggling 12th-seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4. Verdasco titled here three years ago.

In some first-round action, long-time Spanish favorite Tommy Robredo overcame qualifier and fellow countryman Marc Lopez 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Aussie Bernard Tomic tackled French qualifier Kenny De Schepper 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Robredo captured this event in 2004 before Rafael Nadal embarked on a string of five straight championships. Robredo lost to Nadal in the 2006 finale.

Other first-round wins came for Slovenian Blaz Kavcic, Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Spaniard Albert Ramos and Argentine Carlos Berlocq.

The second round will conclude on Wednesday, including matches for top-seeded four-time Barcelona runner-up David Ferrer, the second-seeded two-time reigning champion Nadal and fourth seed Nicolas Almagro. The seven-time Barcelona champ Nadal, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the Monte Carlo Masters final this past weekend, topped Ferrer in the last two all-Spanish Barcelona finales.
