Melbourne, Australia (Sports Network) - The top-seeded doubles team of Sara
Errani and Roberta Vinci upended Serena and Venus Williams in the
quarterfinals of the Australian Open on Tuesday.
The doubles match at Margaret Court Arena lasted two hours, 36 minutes and saw
the Italian duo pull out a 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5 victory over the 12th-seeded
Americans, who vying for their 14th Grand Slam doubles title together.
Serena, who will play her singles quarterfinal against Sloane Stephens on
Wednesday, had her serve broken to go down 4-5 in the third set, but the
Williams' broke right back to tie the match.
Venus double-faulted on break point to give Errani a chance to serve out the
match, and she did just that to reach the semis, where they will face the
Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.
