Helsinki, Finland (Sports Network) - The United States clinched a spot in the quarterfinals at the 2013 World Hockey Championship with Sunday's 3-0 win over Germany.

John Gibson earned the shutout with a 30-save effort, while captain Paul Stastny, Stephen Gionta and Bobby Butler supplied the goals for the Americans.

Team USA sits atop Group H with 15 points, one more than host Finland. Each team has one game remaining in the preliminary round.

In Stockholm, Canada got a tie-breaking goal from Jeff Skinner in the third period that held up as the difference in a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic.

Mike Smith made 30 saves for a Canadians squad that is also bound for the next round. Canada moved two points ahead of Switzerland for first place in Group S. The Swiss, however, can reclaim the top spot with a win against Norway later Sunday.
