Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Antti Miettinen scored the deciding goal in the third period, and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 24-of-25 shots to help the Winnipeg Jets pick up a crucial late-season win with a 2-1 decision over the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center. Aaron Gagnon also tallied for the Jets, who closed within a point of idle Washington for first place in the Southeast Division with two games remaining in the regular season. Winnipeg, now 6-0-1 over its last seven contests, also trails the New York Rangers by the same margin for the eighth and final playoff seed in the Eastern Conference, though both the Capitals and Rangers currently own a game in hand. Buffalo was dealt a second consecutive defeat and sixth straight in its series with Winnipeg despite a 37-save effort by Jhonas Enroth. Thomas Vanek accounted for the Sabres' lone goal in the second period.

Final Score: Pittsburgh 3, Ottawa 1

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Tomas Vokoun made 34 saves to pick up career victory No. 300 as the Pittsburgh Penguins downed the playoff-hopeful Ottawa Senators, 3-1, at Scotiabank Place. Dustin Jeffrey recorded a goal and an assist, while Jarome Iginla and Tyler Kennedy also lit the lamp for the Penguins, who already locked up the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and trail the Blackhawks in the Presidents' Trophy race by three points with three games to play. Chicago plays at Vancouver Monday night. Patrick Wiercioch scored Ottawa's goal while Craig Anderson stopped 21-of-24 shots for the Senators, who have dropped two straight on the heels of a promising four-game winning streak. Ottawa is still tied with the New York Rangers for the final two playoff spots in the East with 52 points apiece, though they only lead the Winnipeg Jets by one point. Both the Jets and Rangers have a game in hand on Winnipeg. Monday's meeting was the first between the teams since reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson suffered a severe laceration to his left Achilles when he got clipped by the skate of Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke. Karlsson has not played since but is back on skates and may play in the Senators' final three games with their playoff fate still up in the air.

Final Score: Detroit 4, Phoenix 0

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Jimmy Howard stopped all 34 shots for his fourth shutout of the year and it came at a big time as Detroit took a 4-0 win over Phoenix. Detroit came into the game three points out of a playoff spot, but now has 50 points and sits just one back of Columbus and Minnesota for a spot in the Western Conference postseason. Minnesota and Detroit both have three games to play and Columbus has two left on its schedule. Phoenix, meanwhile, is in dire straits with its playoff hopes hanging by a thread. The team has 46 points with three games to play. Johan Franzen scored twice, Damien Brunner posted a goal and an assist while Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Red Wings, who came into the game having dropped five of their last six. Henrik Zetterberg gave three assists on the night. Mike Smith gave up three goals on 22 shots for the Coyotes, who have lost four of their past five games.
