Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have released 21
players, including quarterbacks Mike Kafka and Matt Scott.
The release of Kafka and Scott leaves the Jaguars with three quarterbacks:
starter Blaine Gabbert, backup Chad Henne and Ricky Stanzi.
Kafka completed 13-of-29 passes for 73 yards with a touchdown and an
interception in four preseason games. Meanwhile, Scott connected on 18-of-40
passes for 170 yards and an interception.
The Jaguars also released veteran cornerback Marcus Trufant, who signed with
Jacksonville in May after spending 10 seasons with Seattle. The 32-year-old
has played in 136 games with 125 starts over the course of his career.
Additionally, Jacksonville cut wide receivers Jeremy Ebert, Charly Martin,
Toney Clemons and Tobais Palmer, defensive ends Pannel Egboh and Ryan Davis,
running back Jonathan Grimes, linebackers Brandon Marshall, Julian Stanford
and Mike Zimmer, offensive tackles Pat McQuistan and R.J. Dill, guard Drew
Nowak, cornerback Kevin Rutland, defensive tackles D'Anthony Smith and T.J.
Barnes, tight end Ryan Otten and safety Steven Terrell.
The Jaguars will also place wide receiver Justin Blackmon on the
reserve/suspended list on Saturday when he officially begins his four-game
suspension, and that will get their roster down to the 53-man limit.
