East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - New York Giants safety Stevie Brown suffered a torn ACL to his left knee during Saturday night's 24-21 preseason overtime loss to the New York Jets.

Coach Tom Coughlin confirmed the severity of the injury during his conference call on Sunday.

New York's starting safety sustained the season-ending injury after picking off Jets quarterback Geno Smith in the first quarter. His knee buckled without contact during the return and was unable to put any weight on it while on his way to the locker room.

New York originally called it a sprained knee during the game, but tests on Sunday confirmed the true extent of the injury.

Brown enjoyed his best NFL season in 2012 while playing for his third team in as many years. He made 11 starts for the Giants and had a team-leading eight interceptions, which was the second highest total in all the NFL last season.
