Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Jeremy Guthrie pitched a shutout and broke a Kansas City record in the process, as the Royals blanked the Chicago White Sox, 2-0, in the opener of a three-game series.

Guthrie (4-0) allowed just four hits and a walk to get his first career major league shutout. He has gone 17 straight starts without earning a loss going back to last season, breaking the franchise record set by Paul Splittorf in 1977-78.

Lorenzo Cain hit a two-run triple in the first and it was all the offense the Royals needed to get the win, their third straight.

White Sox starter Dylan Axelrod (0-2) gave up two runs on eight hits and a walk over 7 2/3 frames.
