WSSU Ranked Fourth In NCAA Division II Super Region One Rankings

Winston-Salem, N.C.--Winston-Salem State University is ranked fourth in the first NCAA Division II Super Region 1 rankings of the season released by the NCAA Championships selection committee.

West Chester University (8-0) of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference sits atop the Super Region I rankings, while Shepherd University (7-0) of the Mountain East Conference is second, and Bloomsburg (8-0) of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is third.

Slippery Rock University (7-1) of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is fifth, while Virginia State University (7-1) of the CIAA is sixth. Stonehill College (6-2) of the Northeast -10 Conference is seventh, California (Pa) (6-2) of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is eighth, Urbana College (6-2) of Mountain East Conference is ninth and Concord University (6-2) of the Mountain East Conference is tenth.

The NCAA Super Region 1 rankings are used to decide the six teams from the region, who will qualify for the 2013 NCAA Division II Football Championships. The top two teams in each region receive a bye into the quarterfinals while Nos. 3 and 4 seeds host Nos. 5 and 6 seeds, respectively. The winners of the first round games then advance to play at Nos. 1 and 2 seeds in the region on Nov. 30 in the quarterfinals.

The Winston-Salem State University Rams ALSO moved up two spots to No. 13 this week in the American Football Coaches Association poll, and moved to No. 12 in the D2Football.com poll.
