HAMPTON, VA - Three Winston-Salem state University football players have been selected Players of the Week for their performances on the field versus Bowie State, as released from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Office.
Offensive lineman, Daven Gray (6-3, 310, Sr, Kernersville, NC), was selected as the CIAA offensive Lineman of the Week in helping Winston-Salem State's offense account for a whopping 690 yards of total offense, including 428 passing and 262 rushing yards in the Rams 56-21 win over Bowie State.
Quarterback, Rudy Johnson (6-2, 185, Jr, San Diego, Calif.) was selected as Quarterback of the Week.
Johnson continues to make his mark on CIAA competition.
Making his fourth consecutive start, Johnson finished 20 of 36 for 390 yards and four touchdown passes, while also leading the Rams in rushing, with Johnson picking up 73 yards on seven carries with two touchdowns.
This was his second straight game with four touchdown passes.
Tight end and defensive tackle, Jerry Chandler (6-5, 285, Sr, High Point, NC), was chosen as Defensive Lineman of the Week. Chandler, who plays on both sides of the football for Winston-Salem State, had a great afternoon, as he recorded four tackles, a tackle for a loss, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. The Rams defense held Bowie State to 257 yards of offense.
