Greensboro, NC -  The Rotary Club of Greensboro has selected the second winner of the Bob Sawyer Guilford County Football Player of the week. 


Winner: Jake Simpson

Coach: Pat Neal

Jersey Number: 7

Position: Quarterback

As the starting quarterback for the team, Jake scored 4 touchdowns in addition to 1 interception, 278 passing yards and 40 rushing yards at the August 30the game against Southern Guilford. Score:32-0. 

In the words of his coach, Mr. Simpson is a great student with a GPA of more than 4.0. He is a hard worker both on and off the field. Jake is a member of the Student Government at Grimsley High School and is an outstanding leader in the community and the school.

Info on Award: The Bob Sawyer Award began in fall of 2013 for Guilford County High School football players.  This new award is in honor of long-time coach, athletic director and Greensboro Rotarian, Bob Sawyer, who remains a legend in North Carolina high school athletics. Leading Grimsley High School's swimming teams to 16 consecutive championships and an unprecedented 15 straight NCHSAA state titles, Sawyer was inducted into the East Carolina University Hall of Fame in 1974, and was enshrined in the NC High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1995.
