Duke's Mason Plumlee Named AP All-American

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke forward Mason Plumlee was named the Associated Press All-America second team as announced by the organization Monday. Plumlee closed the year averaging 17.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 blocks per game as the Blue Devils reached the Elite Eight and finished 30-6 overall.

Plumlee, just the second Blue Devil under Coach K to average a double-double for a season, is joined on the second team by Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State), Cody Zeller (Indiana), Shane Larkin (Miami) and Ben McLemore (Kansas).

The AP All-America first team consisted of Doug McDermott (Creighton), Trey Burke (Michigan), Otto Porter Jr. (Georgetown), Victor Oladipo (Indiana) and Kelly Olynyk (Gonzaga). The third team was seniors Jeff Withey (Kansas), Erick Green (Virginia Tech) and Nate Wolters (South Dakota State) along with juniors Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State) and Russ Smith (Louisville).

Plumlee has also earned second team All-America accolades from the NABC and USBWA this season. He ended his senior campaign with 18 double-doubles and 33 double-figure scoring games, including nine contests with 20 or more points scored.

The Warsaw, Ind., native concluded his Duke career ranked in the top 10 in rebounds, field goal percentage, blocks and dunks. Plumlee also became the 31st player in ACC history to record over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

In addition to his numerous on court honors this season, Plumlee was also named a 2013 Capital One First Team Academic All-America.
