UNCG's Trevis Simpson Named SoCon Player Of The Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNCG's Trevis Simpson has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for all games played January 22-28.

Simpson averaged 35.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest as the Spartans earned wins over Samford (66-64) and Chattanooga (77-69) last week.

Simpson began the week with 30 points against Samford. The Douglas, Ga., native scored 22 of UNCG's 27 second-half points, including the Spartans' final 14. He added five rebounds in 32 minutes against the Bulldogs.

Sunday afternoon against UTC, Simpson poured in a career-high 41 points, tying the school's single-game scoring mark. It was the highest scoring total for a Spartan in UNCG's Division I era and was the third-highest single-game total in NCAA Division I this season. The junior recorded seven rebounds and an assist in 33 minutes against the Mocs.

Simpson shot 50 percent (23-of-46) from the field and connected on nine of 19 (.474) 3-point attempts. His 71 points in back-to-back games are the most all-time for a Spartan in consecutive games.

He leads the SoCon in scoring (19.9 ppg) and ranks fourth in made 3-pointers per game (2.3 3fg).

The Spartans (6-13, 4-4 SoCon) return to action Thursday when they host Elon (13-7, 6-2 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Nathan Healy, The Citadel's Mike Groselle, Davidson's Nik Cochran, Elon's Jack Isenbarger, Samford's Tim Williams, Chattanooga's Z. Mason, Western Carolina's Brandon Boggs and Wofford's Spencer Collins.
