Oxford, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Paced by Jawon Chisholm's three rushing touchdowns, the Akron Zips took down the Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 24-17, in a Mid- American Conference matchup at Yager Stadium.

Chisholm had 86 yards on 16 carries for the Zips (2-6, 1-3 MAC). Kyle Pohl threw for 227 yards on 23-of-32 passing, while Zach D'Orazio had seven receptions for 88 yards.

The RedHawks (0-7, 0-3) made a late push that proved to be too little, too late. Austin Boucher had 226 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 23- of-34 passing. Dawan Scott led all receivers with 90 yards and a touchdown on four catches.

Akron started the scoring early in the first quarter with a two-yard Chisholm touchdown run.

The home team answered later in the frame with a six-yard touchdown pass from Boucher to David Frazier.

The Zips found the end zone on their first drive of the second half on a Chisholm eight-yard run to go up, 14-7.

Akron continued to attack on the ground later in the third quarter. Chisholm had another rushing touchdown, this time a one-yard run.

Robert Stein hit a 19-yard field goal to put the Zips up 24-7 midway through the fourth quarter.

Miami-Ohio would not go down quietly. Boucher completed a 44-yard touchdown pass to Scott to bring it deficit to ten with 4:49 left.

The RedHawks continued to pull closer following a 52-yard field goal by Kaleb Patterson with 1:27 remaining, but they failed to recover the ensuing on-side kick and Akron ran out the clock from there.

This marked the first loss for Miami-Ohio against Akron in Oxford since 1939. It still leads the all-time series, 16-6-1.
