Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Tennessee State football coach Rod Reed said
quarterback Michael German has regained his academic eligibility, but the
redshirt junior won't be allowed to play in the first two games of the season.
German, from Pompano Beach, Fla., is expected to return to practices on
During the offseason, German was charged with felony vandalism, but the charge
was dismissed earlier this month.
A two-year starter, German was named the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman
of the Year. He has thrown for 4,650 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career.
German will sit out Sunday's season opener against Bethune-Cookman as well as a
Sept. 7 game against Florida A&M. He will be allowed to play against Jackson
State in the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis on Sept. 14.
Tennessee State lists redshirt freshman Ronald Butler as the starting
quarterback for the opener against Bethune-Cookman.
