Pullman, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Roberto Nelson scored a game-high 26 points
as the Oregon State Beavers coasted to a 66-55 victory over the Washington
State Cougars in Pac-12 action at Beasley Coliseum.
Nelson connected on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, and hit 11-of-15 free-
throw attempts in the contest for Oregon State (11-7, 3-3 Pac-12). Angus
Brandt chipped in 14 points in the win. The Beavers have won three of their
last four matchups.
D.J. Shelton netted 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double to
pace Washington State (8-11, 1-6). Shelton connected on 10-of-15 shooting from
the floor. Que Johnson contributed 15 points in the losing effort. The Cougars
have lost three in a row and six of their last seven.
Oregon State came out firing in the first half, hitting 63.2 percent of its
shots from the floor, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. The Beavers took a
33-27 lead into the intermission. Washington State was also impressive in the
half, connecting on 59.1 percent of its shots, although the Cougars went 0-
of-2 from 3-point distance.
The two teams had nearly identical shooting percentages in the second half, as
Oregon State hit 42.9 percent from the floor compared to Washington State's
42.3 percent. The Cougars went 6-of-12 from beyond the arc in the half, while
the Beavers hit 1-of-6 from distance.
Oregon State had a huge advantage from the free-throw line in the contest,
19-1, and held a slight edge in second chance points, 10-6.
