Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Keifer Sykes led the way with a game-high
27 points, adding eight rebounds and six assists as the Green Bay Phoenix
defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, 83-69, in a Horizon League tilt at the
Carrington Love added 17 points for the Phoenix (16-3, 6-0 Horizon), while
Alec Brown chipped in with 15 points.
For the Golden Grizzlies (7-14, 2-4), Corey Petros led the way with 19 points
and nine rebounds, while Kahlil Felder finished with 14 points and Tommie
McCune scored 13. Felder added eight assists to his stat line.
Green Bay shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first, including 4-of-9 from
beyond the arc and used an early 8-0 run to get some separation and take a
37-30 lead at the intermission. Oakland struggled shooting from the field in
the opening period, making just 34.4 percent of its shots, including 2-of-10
from 3-point range.
After halftime, the Phoenix were hot from the floor, shooting 56 percent and
hitting on 4-of-6 from 3-point distance. The Golden Grizzlies shot 45.2
percent but continued to struggle from deep, making only 3-of-11 3-pointers in
the half. A 12-1 run midway through the second half gave the Golden Grizzlies
a five-point lead with 10 minutes to play. Oakland led by one with five
minutes remaining when the Phoenix used a 13-3 run to retake the lead and hold
on for the victory.
Oakland had the edge down low, outscoring Green Bay in the paint, 36-28. Green
Bay finished with a 23-14 scoring advantage at the free-throw line, and had an
11-4 edge in second chance points.
