Forbes, the Cleveland State Vikings defeated the Illinois-Chicago Flames,
74-64, in a Horizon League matchup at UIC Pavilion.
For the Vikings (12-9, 4-3 Horizon), Jon Harris posted a double-double with 18
points and 10 rebounds, Trey Lewis finished with 16 points and Anton Grady
Jake Wiegand led the Flames (5-15, 0-6) with 17 points and nine rebounds, and
Jay Parker added 10 points and six assists.
Cleveland State shot just 44 percent from the field in the first half but
connected on 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, as the Vikings went into halftime
leading 29-23. UIC struggled from the field, shooting just 31 percent in the
opening period and missing all but one of its nine tries from 3-point range.
After the break, the Vikings continued to have the hot hand, hitting on 50
percent of their field goal tries, including 4-of-6 from 3-point distance. The
Flames heated up as well in the second half, making 53.8 percent of their
shots from the floor and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
The Vikings led by as many as 13 points in the second half. The Flames would
cut the deficit to six with just over five minutes to play, but Cleveland
State held on for the victory, hitting 11 free throws over the final 90
seconds to secure the win and hand the Flames their ninth straight defeat.
The Vikings made the most of the Flames' mistakes, forcing 11 turnovers and
converting them into 15 points. UIC did outscore Cleveland State in the paint,
