Peoria, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Walt Lemon, Jr. pumped in 28 points to lift
the Bradley Braves to a 69-65 win over the Northern Iowa Panthers in a
Missouri Valley Conference battle at Carver Arena.
Auston Barnes chipped in 10 points for Bradley (8-12, 3-4 MVC) as it picked up
its second victory in a row.
Seth Tuttle led the Panthers (10-9, 4-3) with 20 points which he accompanied
with seven rebounds. Wes Washpun added 12 points and six assists while Nate
Buss tallied 11 points and eight rebounds. Jeremy Morgan contributed 10 points
in the losing effort.
UNI took a 32-29 lead into the intermission after it shot 44 percent from the
floor including 5-of-14 from 3-point range in the opening period. The Braves
also hit on 44 percent of their field goal tries, but made good on only 3-of-7
tries from beyond the arc.
Bradley heated up to connect on 51.7 percent of its shots from the field in
the second stanza. The Panthers cooled off to make only 30.4 percent of their
field goal attempts, but kept it close by converting 15-of-17 tries at the
free-throw line. The contest was tied at 61 with 1:44 left in regulation
before Bradley closed out the game on an 8-4 run. Lemon, Jr. sealed the win
with a pair of makes at the charity stripe with one second remaining.
Bradley enjoyed a 33-30 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored UNI,
32-16, in the paint.
