Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Brenton William and Tyrone Johnson each
finished with 18 points to lead the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 92-65 win
over the Marshall Thundering Herd in a non-conference matchup at Colonial
For the Gamecocks (6-6), Duane Notice finished with 13 points, six rebounds
and six assists and Demetrius Henry chipped in with 12 points.
Shawn Smith led the Herd (5-8) with 19 points, while Ryan Taylor added 18
points, Kareem Canty scored 11 and Chris Thomas tallied 10 points.
South Carolina shot 44.8 percent from the field in the first half and held
Marshall to just 36.4 percent shooting, including 1-of-7 from 3-point
distance, as the Gamecocks held a 36-31 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Gamecocks knocked down 56.8 percent of their field
goal tries, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. The Herd continued to have
trouble shooting the ball, making 39.1 percent of their field goal attempts
after halftime and missing all seven of their 3-point tries. The Gamecocks
used a 14-1 run early in the second half to take control of the contest.
South Carolina dominated in the frontcourt, outrebounding the Herd, 44-27, and
outscoring them in the paint, 54-28. Marshall committed 16 turnovers on the
night, with Canty responsible for 11 of them.
