Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Walter Pitchford scored 14 points in leading
the Nebraska Cornhuskers to a 62-47 victory over the Western Illinois
Leathernecks in a non-conference joust at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Shavon Shields and Terran Petteway each added 13 points, with Petteway
managing nine rebounds as well, for Nebraska (2-0). Leslee Smith chipped in 10
points off the bench.
Tate Stensgaard was the only player in double figures for Western Illinois
(0-2) with 10 points.
Nebraska put forth a dominant effort in the first half and took a 36-17 lead
into the locker room. The Cornhuskers hit 56 percent of their shots from the
field, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, and held Western Illinois to
just seven field goals.
After the break Nebraska cooled off, shooting at just a 32 percent clip, but
the Leathernecks were unable to shoot their way back as they hit just 2-of-13
shots from 3-point range.
Nebraska forced 15 turnovers and had a 34-30 advantage on the boards.
