Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dalton Pepper scored 19 points and
Anthony Lee hung up a double-double as the Temple Owls bested the Penn
Quakers, 78-73, in a Big Five regional rivalry game at the Palestra.
Pepper came a rebound shy of a double-double of his own as Lee had 12 points
to match 12 rebounds for Temple (1-0). Will Cummings added 18 points and four
assists while Quenton DeCosey chipped in 12 points for the Owls.
Tony Hicks scored a game-high 28 points for Penn (0-1). Darien Nelson-Henry
posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds and Miles Cartwright
dropped in 12 points to go with four assists.
Even though it shot at just a 35 percent clip in the first half, Temple
managed to claim a 42-35 lead at the break by knocking down 11-of-15 shots
from the free throw line while Lee had three of five blocked shots for the
Penn managed to keep the game close in the second half by shooting at a 48.5
percent pace but Temple improved to 46.4 percent shooting and connected on 7-
of-9 tries from the free throw line to claim the win.
Penn lost despite beating Temple in points off turnovers (17-10) and points in
the paint (44-26). The Owls had a commanding 49-35 edge on the boards.
