Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff White scored a career-high 23 points to help lead the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers past their former Horizon League rival the Milwaukee Panthers, 76-72, in the season opener at Gentile Arena.

White shot 6-of-10 from the field for Loyola (1-0) and made all 11 of his free-throw attempts. He was also active on the defensive end of the court with four steals. Milton Doyle poured in 17 points, while Christian Thomas posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Matt Tiby paced Milwaukee (0-1) with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Kyle Kelm (13 points) and Austin Arians (11 points) were both solid off the bench, and Thierno Niang rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Milwaukee led for the majority of the first half, but Loyola closed the frame on a 9-3 run, and a White layup with six seconds left tied the game up at 28-28 heading into intermission.

The back-and-forth battle continued at the start of the second half, but the Ramblers ripped off a 9-0 run to take a 62-57 lead with 6:35 left. The Panthers made things interesting in the final minute when a Kelm layup brought their deficit to just two with 14 seconds to play, but White iced the game with a pair of free throws moments later.

Loyola shot 50 percent from the field, while Milwaukee wasn't far behind at 47.1 percent. The Panthers were plagued by 18 turnovers, while the Ramblers coughed it up just 11 times.
