Tuscaloosa, AL (Sports Network) - Alex Len tallied 15 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks as the second-seeded Maryland Terrapins outlasted the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide, 58-57, in the quarterfinal round of the NIT at Coleman Coliseum.

Len shot 6-of-9 from the field for Maryland (25-12), which will play the winner of Wednesday's Virginia/Iowa matchup in the semifinals. Dez Wells and Jake Layman netted 13 points apiece for the visitors.

For Alabama (23-13), Levi Randolph led the way with 15 points, while Rodney Cooper and Trevor Releford added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Trevor Lacey scored just five points but dished out eight assists in the setback.

Maryland shot 52.2 percent from the field in the first half while holding the Tide to just 33.3 percent shooting, as it went into intermission carrying a 31-24 lead.

The Terps extended their lead to as many as 10 early in the second half, but the Tide would not go away quietly. Alabama cut its deficit to just one on a handful of occasions, including with under a minute remaining on a Releford layup. Len had a chance to give his team a cushion at the foul line with 27 seconds left but had an 0-of-2 trip. The Tide had one last possession but they missed a pair of field goal attempts in the final four seconds as they fell just short.

Maryland overcame 18 turnovers by winning the rebounding battle, 33-27.
