RALEIGH, N.C.-- Sophomore C.J. Leslie is finally meeting the expectations that followed him as a touted recruit to North Carolina State.

Leslie is averaging nearly 15 points and seven rebounds for the Wolfpack (24-12) heading into Friday's game against Kansas in St. Louis.

N.C. State's appearance in the Midwest Regional semifinals is its first in the round of 16 since 2005.

Coach Mark Gottfried says Leslie has improved in every area, particularly with his better practice habits and shot selection. Leslie says the first-year coaching staff has put him in the right position to succeed.

Leslie was a McDonald's All-American who was part of a touted recruiting class brought in by Sidney Lowe last season, but Leslie had an up-and-down rookie year.
