GREENVILLE, Ky.-- Nine people were killed and two were seriously injured early Thursday in a house fire in Muhlenberg County, a Greenville Fire Department dispatcher said.

The fire started at about 2 a.m. on Motes Lane in Greenville, he said.

Personnel from three fire departments – Greenville Fire, Graham Volunteer Fire and Beechmont Volunteer Fire – responded to fight the blaze.

No information was immediately available on the relationship of the victims to each other or the suspected cause of the fire. Firefighters were still at the scene shortly after 7 a.m.

The two people injured in the fire were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. Hospital spokeswoman Dagny Stuart confirmed one adult and one child were flown to the hospital. The adult was taken to the main ER at the hospital while the child was taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital, which is on the same campus.

The conditions and names of the fire victims were not immediately available, Stuart said.
