GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. - Tuesday was the Annual "Point in Time Count," the one day to gather a census of homeless population in Guilford County.
The count accomplishes three goals for the organization "Partners Ending Homelessness."
It measures the group's progress and is part of the national federal reporting they must submit. It also keeps the system accountable.
Executive Director of Partners ending Homelessness Darryl Kosciak says they're using new tactics to reduce homelessness.
"We're changing some of the models and adapting some of the practices and looking at housing first. The concept being, the outcomes across the board improved for someone one they're in their house and then working on maintaining that housing," says Kosciak.
He says this new approach has been making its way across the country over the past few years.
