WAYNESVILLE, N.C. -- A Haywood County inmate who who walked off from a work detail has been captured.
Alan Scott Beck, 41, was found at a motel in Newport, Tenn. around 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Haywood County Sheriff's Office deputy Heidi Warren said. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cocke County, Tennessee jail, where he will await extradition.
Beck was brought by detention personnel to work at the county's Materials Recovery Facility in Clyde around 8 a.m. Saturday. He was reported missing around 10:30 a.m., having last been seen sweeping the floors of the main building.
Beck had been in custody since Jan. 13 on a warrant for failure to pay about $1,200 in past-due child support.
