GREENSBORO, NC -- We rely on them to keep us safe, but have you ever wanted a closer look at how they do it?
If you're curious about what goes on behind the scenes at the Guilford County Sheriff's Office, now is your time to find out.
The office is currently enrolling members of the community in the Guilford County Sheriff's Citizen Academy.
It's an opportunity to understand how law enforcement functions, from every aspect. Some of the subject areas include:
• Criminal justice
• Laws of arrest, search and seizure
• Detention operations and tour
• Firearms simulator training
• Computer crimes
• Use of force
The program is free, but space is limited.
Weekly classes begin on February 6, 2014 , and run for 20 weeks.
The 6:30 PM Thursday sessions will meet at the Sheriff's Otto Zenke building at 400 W. Washington Street, in Greensboro. Each class lasts approximately three hours each, and will be complemented by lab sessions held on four Saturday mornings.
