FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- You've heard of man's best friend coming to the rescue, but what about a parrot?
According to WFOR-TV, Pearly the parrot woke up his owner, Laurajean Niesel, and her fiancé early Monday morning.
Both of them were asleep in their home in Fort Lauderdale. Right away they knew something was wrong by Pearly's squawk. Niesel said Pearly was squawking and flapping its wings so much she had to wake up to see what was wrong.
That's when she noticed smoke coming from the laundry room.
Birds are sensitive to smoke and Pearly sounded her own alarm before the smoke alarm. The couple called for help and fire crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to the rest of the house.
Niesel said that Pearly hasn't always been a fan to some in the home because of his squawking but he's now right at home.
