13 Hurt After NC School Bus, Tractor-Trailer Collide

CLAYTON, N.C. -- More than a dozen people were hurt Wednesday morning after a school bus accident in Johnston County.

The bus and a tractor-trailer collided around 7 a.m. on U.S. 70, near Clayton.

WRAL-TV is reporting 11 students, the bus and tractor-trailer drivers all went to the hospital.

The bus services Smithfield Middle School. A Johnston County Schools spokesperson told WRAL 12 students were on the bus when the wreck happened.

Authorities say fog was likely a factor in the crash. N.C. State Highway Patrol said the bus stopped to pick up some kids when the tractor-trailer hit it.

Officers closed U.S. 70 East while the wreck was cleared.
