This was the unusual scene in the New York Bronx on Saturday.
A small plane made an emergency landing on the Major Deegan Expressway after engine trouble. A New York City fire official said "it basically landed and the wheels collapsed out from under it, skidded to a halt."
The plane was headed back to Connecticut after touring the Statue of Liberty. The pilot and two passengers were taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. It could have been worse.
A maintenance crew fixing potholes saw the plane was distressed and headed towards them. They stopped traffic and helped clear a space for it to safely land.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
