HIGH POINT, N.C. -- J&S Cafeteria wants you to start the New Year out right.
That's why on New Year's Day they're serving a free bowl of slow-simmered black-eyed peas. It's said that the peas bring properity and good forture. This is the 29th year for the tradition at the Cafeteria. But you can get the traditional "first dinner." That includes a meal of black-eyed peas, collards, hog jowls, and corn bread for $6.25.
Manager Mike Cantrell expected to go through nearly 500 pounds of blak-eyed peas, serving around 2300 customers.
J&S Cafeteria is located at HWY 68 at Penny Road across the Palladium Theater. They'll will be serving free black-eyed peas all day long.
