GREENSBORO -- The 38th TIMCO Invitational presented by NewBridge Bank is in the history books.
"It was phenomenal!" tournament media chairman Rob Goodman of 3-G Sports said in a phone interview with WFMY News2, Sunday.
Goodman says the reason TIMCO sponsors the event is to expose area high school students to the Aviation industry so they may consider it as a career choice.
This year, they expanded that effort with the introduction of the Aviation Careers Job Fair which was held in conjunction with this week's tournament.
Companies such as TIMCO, HondaJet, Purolator Filters, Bridgestone Tires as well as GTCC, the North Carolina Aviation Institute, Andrews Aviation Academy and the United States Air Force were among the exhibitors.
The plan TIMCO had as a Second year sponsor was to introduce some of the high school students to Aviation and these companies when there was a break in the action on the court.
"But more than students and their families showed up. People who had no interest in the high school basketball tournament brought resumes, so next year the plan will probably be to enhance the job fair and possibly make more accessible to the general public."
Goodman says there is no way to know just how many people visited the vendor booths but it drew enough attention to bring vendors back.
As for the winners of the TIMCO Invitational this year. The company will host a reception for the Page High School girls and Greensboro Day School boys teams on January 11th.
Along with the reception the students will get to tour the facility, see some of the planes at TIMCO for maintenance and learn more about what aviation in the Triad has to offer.
