Hickory, NC-- Law enforcement in Caldwell County says a man was shot and killed after a shootout with sheriff's deputies. A statement from the sheriff's office said deputies were dispatched to a home in Hickory Thursday morning in response to a domestic call.
As the deputies approached the home, the suspect left the home armed with weapons. The sheriff's office said the suspect exchanged gunfire with the deputies. Capt. B.J. Fore said the suspect died at the scene. None of the officers were hurt, but they have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard when officers are involved in a shooting.
The State Bureau of Investigation is also looking into the shooting. The suspect's identity wasn't immediately released.
A nearby day care was put on lockdown during the incident.
