Greensboro, NC --Police believe thieves smashed and took off with 5 air conditioners at the Shiloh Holiness Church of God & Christ church in Greensboro.

The callous act left a church without air conditioning for the church and its daycare center.

"Why target the church, out of all the places to target, sacred ground," Pastor Robert Taylor is still asking himself.

Investigators believe the crooks used torches to burn off locks to get what they wanted. The Pastor estimates the replace cost to be in the thousands. Even though he's angry about the theft, Taylor said he feels sorry for those, who made the decision to steal from his congregation. "I feel they were desperate that it is a do or die situation," he said.

His biggest concern right now is telling parents the child care center might have to close, until they get the A/C fixed.

"We've got little kids. We've got to do something. What? I don't have the slightest idea."

The Pastors told WFMY News 2, he's searching for a solution to the problem. He spent Tuesday trying to figure out, if his air conditioners units are covered under the church's insurance.

Police is encouraging anyone with information about the theft at this church of Vandalia Street, please call Crime Stoppers at: 336-373-1000.
