Amtrak Train Hits Man On Bicycle In Burlington

Burlington, NC - An Amtrak passenger train struck a man on a bicycle at the railroad crossing in the 100 block of Lakeview Dr.

The biker crossed the tracks illegally when the cross arms were activated around 7 pm Thursday, according to police. The westbound train came to a stop after it hit him.

Police said the man left the scene and do not know his medical condition at this time. Witnesses told police that he is a white man 30- to 40-years-old and wore a toboggan hat. He was last seen walking along S. Schools St. pushing his bicycle. No other injuries were reported. 

The tracks were closed for one hour while officers investigated the incident. 

Burlington Fire Department, Alamance County EMS, Amtrak Police and Norfolk Southern Railroad Police all helped with Burlington Police Department's investigation.
