GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami's Durand Scott has been named the ACC Player of the Week, while Wake Forest's Devin Thomas has been selected the league's Rookie of the Week.
In earning ACC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, Scott averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists as the Hurricanes won twice, defeating No. 1 Duke and in-state rival Florida State by an average of 25.5-point win margin.
In Wednesday's 90-63 win against the Blue Devils, Scott had 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 36 minutes of playing time. The Bronx, N.Y., senior was 9-of-14 (.643) from the field, 3-of-4 from behind the arc and 4-of-5 at the line. In Sunday's win against the Seminoles, Scott totaled 11 points, four assists and two turnovers as the Hurricanes improved to 6-0 in the ACC with a 71-47 victory.
Thomas averaged 16.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game while shooting .565 percent from the field in Wake Forest's two games last week.
On Tuesday, the Harrisburg, Pa., freshman led the Deacons to an 86-84 upset of No. 18-ranked NC State with 25 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and three steals. Thomas hit on 10-of-13 from the field and pulled down nine offensive rebounds, which ties for the third-highest single-game total in school history.
In Saturday's 82-62 loss at Georgia Tech, Thomas came up just short of his second straight double-double, finishing with eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with a season-high five blocks. Six of his 13 boards came on the offensive end.
