Biscoe, NC -- Deputies arrested two people and seized hundreds of cockfighting roosters, along with thousands of dollars in cocaine and marijuana, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Officers seized 145 cockfighting roosters, 100 sets of metal razor spurs, medications for the roosters, and several fake US entry documents from a home on Post Office Rd.

Deputies confiscated more than $100,000 worth of cocaine and $50,000 of marijuana, along with several guns, packaging material and money. There was also a rooster fighting pit located behind the house.

Deputies arrested Maria De Jesus Mortera-Lopez, 30, a Mexico citizen, in relation to these seizures.

Luis Jaimes Zavaleta, 32, also a citizen of Mexico, was not home when officers executed their search warrant. Zavaleta is now considered a fugitive. The car he was driving was recovered at a relatives house in Troy.

Mortera-Lopez was placed in the Montgomery County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond.

The Department of Homeland Security, NC SBI, Moore and Lee County Sheriff's Offices, Troy Police, Montgomery Animal Control and NC Dept. of Revenue are all assisting in the investigation.
