Winston-Salem, NC -- The salt really worked well out on the primary arteries in Winston-Salem.
Road crews got the surfaces back to bare pavement soon after the initial accumulation.
Just after nightfall, heavy flakes covered the highway where people couldn't see the lines in the road, but that's when the salt trucks hit the pavement hard.
Dropping salt and pushing any snow out of the travel lanes, and within an hour later, the roads were in a lot better shape.
People traveling were glad for the quick response.
It made the first snowfall of the season that more enjoyable for people like Christy Bennett. She and her husband and their friends stopped in the Waffle House on Hanes Mill Road to take a break from the conditions.
"I'm glad to see it. A little bit of it anyway. Even though 50 degrees tomorrow. 60 degrees yesterday and snowing today," shared Bennett.
If you have to be on the roads, the NC Highway Patrol reminds you that the posted speed limit is for perfect driving conditions.
Be sure you drive below the speed limit on mornings like this.
