Charlotte, NC-- Tuesday, November 6, 2012 North Carolina voters once again made history happen.

By electing Pat McCrory as the next Governor of the state, McCrory becomes the first Republican Governor in 20 years.

He was introduced by his wife, in Charlotte at the Westin Hotel where the watch party was held.

The full text of his speech: (Mrs. Ann McCrory) It gives me great pleasure to introduce the next governor of North Carolina - and my husband - Pat McCrory.

(Pat McCrory) Hello, North Carolina. Thank you, North Carolina.
Phone calls from Walter Dalton, Gov. Perdue, Gov. McDonnell, Gov. Haley, Gov. Christie.

I'd like to thank Walter Dalton, our lieutenant governor, for calling tonight. I know exactly what he's going through tonight. My heart is with him and his family because I know he worked very, very hard. And I thank him for his service to our state.

We're going to be working very closely with her administration to make sure this is as smooth a transition as possible. And I also thank Gov Perdue for her service.

Most of all, thank you to the people of North Carolina - from the east to the Piedmont to the west. I've enjoyed building a relationship with you and the relationship continues for another - at least - four years. (LOUD APPLAUSE) 13 secs + applause

I do want to remind all of you that our goal was not just to become governor and get elected to this great office. Our goal was to BE governor, to lead, to lead. And that's what we plan to do. And we plan to start that work tomorrow.

There's a sense of urgency in this state right now that we've seen throughout the state. People are hurting right now. People are worried about their future. And that's what we're going to begin working on immediately.

Did two things proud of...
We ran a positive campaign.

I wanted to send a message to young people ... that serving in government can be honorable. Running for office can be honorable. And you do not have to tear down another person to make it happen. Whether you're running for school board, county commission, sheriff, state legislature or governor, you can win the right way. And we won the right way. Thank you for supporting that effort, Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike.

We're going to be a more effective leader. We're going to govern together: Republicans, Democrats, Independents. We're going to bring this state together. The east, the Piedmont and the west. But, we're moving to Raleigh soon (Applause)

I wish my mom and dad were here.

They brought us to North Carolina in 1966, Jamestown, to the Greensboro area. They brought us to North Carolina because they knew this was the land of opportunity.

I am so glad my parents made that decision in 1966. There's one thing they instilled in everyone please fulfill your potential. Please fulfill your potential. He said that to his kids, he said that to students at North Carolina A&T University and he said that to his peers. My mom said they same thing while teaching at Guilford Technical Institute and High Point University. Fulfill your potential.

And the challenge I want to tell all of you is this: I want to challenge each of you as individuals, young and old alike, from all over this state as individuals: fulfill your potential.

And what I want I to tell the state is this: we have unlimited opportunity - unlimited opportunity. This is the best state in the United States of America (applause).

What we need to do as individuals is make sure we all fulfill our potential.

Whether you're at school or working, we need to exceed our potential. And if we all exceed our potential, North Carolina will be Number 1 again.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for a Carolina Comeback. It starts tonight. God bless each one of you. God bless America. God bless my wonderful wife Ann.

Thank you very much!
