ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Police are looking for a middle-aged woman in connection with the grisly discovery of multiple bags containing human body parts scattered along snowy roads here.

Officers began discovering the body parts - some in bags and some not - about 4 p.m. Thursday in St. Clair and China townships about 50 miles northeast of Detroit after a caller reported suspicious activity, St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon said.

A motorist spotted another bag shortly before 5 a.m. Friday on an entrance ramp to westbound Interstate 94 that contained clothing and charred paperwork, he said.

"That was not body parts but evidence related to this crime scene," Donnellon said.

The body parts were discovered in at least four locations after a woman called Thursday to report heavy-set, middle-aged white woman dumping garbage out of her mid-1990s SUV, grayish-white or tan in color, possibly a GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet Trailblazer. The number of bags was not disclosed.

The human remains have not been linked to a specific person.

"We can say it is a white male, but that's pretty much all we're going on at this point." Donnellon said. "We are tracking down leads on missing people.

"That very well could be tied into these garbage bags," Donnellon said.

Detectives, members of the Michigan State Police Forensic Crime Lab and officials from the St. Clair County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled Friday afternoon, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
