Chilean zoo animals have been more nice than naughty this year. And they are getting their just deserts!
Zookeepers, filling Santa's shoes, reward them with early Christmas gifts. Nevermind toy cars or planes, the way to these animals hearts is through their stomachs.
Buin Zoo Director Ignacio Idalsoaga explains the Christmas festivity:
"There are many elements incorporated into this game. You need to break the box, look what's inside and it's all something very entertaining for the animals and for our public in the Christmas environment of Buin Zoo. Zoogoers are thrilled."
Pabla Manzano agreed that animals deserve some love from Santa too: "I think it's good that they give presents to the animals because they're looked after as if they were people." Bears dig into their presents. The monkeys are not so graceful. The gift giving is about more than the presents. Whether they have been naught or nice -- unwrapping and retrieving gifts is also a way to help stimulate their curiosity. "
