Japan sent a space telescope into orbit, as its new Epsilon rocket delivered its payload Saturday.

According to NPR, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency reported that the successful launch is a step toward its goal "to lower hurdles to space" by simplifying rocket launches and making them more affordable.

Japan's new solid-fuel rocket successfully blasted off carrying a telescope for remote observation of planets in a launch coordinated from a laptop computer-based command center.
